2026 – pieces in the works

I am excited to be working away on several large(ish) works this year for some absolutely wonderful folks:

  1. Hinge Quartet. It’s been a while since I’ve made something involving saxophone, and it’s been an even longer while since I’ve made something for electric guitar, so the combination of these two sounds with familiar piano/percussion timbres has been an exciting world to explore. Look for a premiere in the New England area some time this fall/winter.
  2. andPlay. I met andPlay in the spring of 2022 when they were guests at the UNK New Music Series, and I was completely shattered by their Translucent Harmonies project. Their ability to control such delicate and fragile sounds is definitely something we all should experience, and I’m honored to be writing for them. This piece is scheduled to be premiered in March of 2027.
  3. Clara Osowski. Clara is a dear, dear friend from our University of Iowa days, and to be making an extended art song for her is an absolute honor…and a huge challenge. I’m setting fragments of text about silence (no surprise there) in several languages, hoping to highlight the commonalities in their timbres.
  4. Peter Tracy (and friends). I met Peter in 2025 when he and Aaron Michael Butler commissioned and premiered my 8 Pieces for Vibraphone and ‘Cello, and then later that year in Düsseldorf at Klangraum. Peter’s ability to perform long, quiet tones is something you must hear: I distinctly remember, in the 6th piece, his unbroken sustain of a long, extremely fragile harmonic…unbelievable. I’m very excited to be making a string quartet for him and his fellow students in Berlin.
